If you know (and love) the Junk Gypsies, you probably can’t get enough of their newest season on Great American Country. Sisters Amie Sikes and Jolie Sikes-Smith bring their rebellious spirit and colorful imagination to “gypsify” what most would consider garbage. Their unusual design masterpieces this season bring life to celebrities’ Airstream campers, a friend’s home and plain ol’ junk that they restore to sell in the Junk Gypsy Store.

We had the chance to interview Amie and Jolie about their projects so far this season, what’s coming up next and advice they have for fellow junkers. Read on to learn more about the newest season of “Junk Gypsies”!

GAC: What was the best moment from season three?

Junk Gypsies: Working on the Airstream for Miranda Lambert’s mom, Bev, was really special. We’ve been friends with the Lamberts for so long – over a decade now. What you don’t see on TV is that we’re two busy families and this project really brought us back together. We were all in Round Top, and we stayed up late around the campfire listening to ZZ Top and Willie Nelson.

The Junk Gypsies with Bev and Miranda Lambert

GAC: What was it like to work with Miranda Lambert?

Junk Gypsies: It was a lot of fun to get to work with Miranda. As we mentioned, we’ve been longtime friends with her, but we’ve never been able to do a project together. It was great that we all got to be in on the creative process. The three of us were cracking up the entire time. We’re all from the same, East Texas cloth, so we were absolutely tickled to work with Miranda.

GAC: You’ve worked on a variety of projects so far this season. Do you have a favorite?

Junk Gypsies: It’s hard to pick a favorite. They’re like your kids – you love them all for their own special reasons. Our favorite part about this season is that we’ve been able to do things for people that we really respect and admire, and people who are really important in our lives. The garage sale fundraiser that we got to do for the school was just the coolest. Being able to see the way the community came together was unbelievable.

Archie’s home makeover

GAC: What was the most challenging project that you’ve worked on this season?

Junk Gypsies: Probably working on Archie’s house. That whole thing was like a monster, because after we knocked out the wall in the kitchen, we had four areas that we had to design – the kitchen, mudroom, closet and patio. We really wanted to make the project special for Archie, too, so it was definitely a challenge.

GAC: Where do you find inspiration for your projects?

Junk Gypsies: One of our number one places for inspiration is the flea market. We find some of the most creative, forward thinking people there. We also love a lot of the old arts and crafts from the 1800s, and, of course, country music and rock ‘n’ roll. Really, inspiration is all over the place.

GAC: Can you give us a sneak peak of what’s coming up later this season on “Junk Gypsies”?

Junk Gypsies: We get to work on the 25th Anniversary Party for Shabby Chic, our community dance hall and something that we’ve never done before – a funky tree house renovation. In one of this season’s later episodes, we get to work on Marcus Luttrell’s study. Getting to do something for someone who’s done so much for our country was unbelievable to us on so many levels, so we’re excited for our viewers to see that episode.

GAC: Do you have any advice for fellow junkers?

Junk Gypsies: You’ve just got to be relentless. If you want to find some really cool stuff, you’ve got to go to garage sales, estate sales or flea markets. Next, you’ve got to be open-minded. For the most part, there’s hardly anything that you can’t turn in to something – and that’s the truth.
